October 3, 2011 Annual Free James Monroe Lecture

Jeffersons at ShadwellThe annual free James Monroe Lecture will be held on Monday, October 3, at 7 p.m., in the Great Hall at the Woodard Campus Center, University of Mary Washington. This year's speaker is Susan Kern, assistant professor of history at the College of William and Mary. Kern will speak on "Before Monticello: The Virginia of Jane and Peter Jefferson," based on her recent book The Jeffersons at Shadwell, which merges archaeology, material culture and social history to tell the story of the legacy Jefferson inherited from his parents and his birthplace.

The lecture is free and a dessert reception will follow.
