Two hundred years ago on Saturday, President James Monroe made a surprise visit on horseback to Huntsville, and his arrival will be re-enacted twice downtown on the anniversary as a part Alabama’s Bicentennial celebration.
The newly restored Constitution Hall Park on Gates Avenue will be the scene of a day-long party starting Saturday at 10 a.m. and running until 4 p.m. Free tours of newly restored park buildings, music, games, public craft demonstrations and giveaways are planned.
